Maxim Gorkiy, which will be renamed Marco Polo II and embark on
its maiden voyage from Barcelona April 15 - 2009. Florida entrepeneur
Wayne Heller, who bought the rights to the brand earlier this year, said
his company will do everything to recreate the original Orient Lines
Nov.18-2008 The ‘new’ Orient Lines, whose revival was the dream of Orlando-based entrepeneur Wayne Heller, is canceling its idea to establish a new Orient Line.The purchase of the Maxim Gorkiy is cancelled due to the current economic climate.

Former names: Hamburg (1969-1973) - Hanseatic (1973-1974) - Maksim Gorkiy ( 1974-1991). Orginal enter service for defunct Deutsche Atlantic Linie as Hamburg - end 1973 laid-up. In 1974 Sold to Black Sea Shipping - Odessa and renamed into Maksim Gorkiy. In 1991 registration in the Bahamas and sold to Belata Shipping- Limassol. New name:Maxim Gorkiy.In 1996 aquired by Maxim Gorkiy Shipping ( Sovcomflot ). Ship is since 1988 on charter to Phoenix charter ended in 2008.
June 20-1989 ship played host to an international meeting in Malta between US president Bush Sr. and Russian leader Gorbachev.
Tonnage: 24.220 bt. Built: 1969/Refits 1974-1988 -2005 - Passengers basis 2: 650 - Passenger decks: 10 - Length: 194,72 - Beam: 26,62 - Built: Howaldtswerke-Hamburg. It is one of the few steam turbine ships still in operation.
